This Will Not End Well

Last night CNN hosted a Republican Presidential Town Hall in which we saw all three GOP contenders go back on their pledge to support the eventual nominee of the party. 

John Kasich said of the pledge, “All of us shouldn’t have answered that question.”

Ted Cruz told host Anderson Cooper, “I’m not in the habit of supporting someone who attacks my wife and my family.  I think nominating Donald Trump would be an absolute train wreck.  I think it would hand the general election to Hillary Clinton.”

Cooper posed the pledge question to Trump who said, “No, I don’t anymore.  I’ve been treated very unfairly” by the Republican National Committee and party establishment figures.  He added, Cruz “doesn’t need to support me.  I have tremendous support right now from the people.  I don’t really want him to do something he’s not comfortable with.”

I worry the festering animus by the candidates on “our” side of the aisle is contaminating the discourse among ordinarily sensible people.  The fans, speaking metaphorically, are beginning to fight each other in the stands.  If you’re a Trump supporter Cruz people call you stupid.  And vice versa if you’re a Cruz supporter.  This is a frightening scenario that will not end well.

I’ve have heard some say they will vote for Hillary if Trump is the nominee.  Don’t mistake what I am saying.  Please.

I have said all along that I believe voters must have their say at the ballot box.  Whoever emerges the winner in each state’s primary should receive the delegates that well-established rules dictate they should be awarded. 

The convention in Cleveland should not devolve into a melee in which everyone has their long knives out.  We’ve come too far to surrender to the Marxists and socialists and poodle press who coronated their “messiah” and lied to the American people about Benghazi and the countless classified emails that placed our national security in grave peril and sought to fundamentally transform America. 

Are we willing to surrender without a fight to a fossil socialist or a corrupt and bloodless woman who lied to the four families who lost loved ones in a far-off hell hole in Libya who could be destined for a stretch in a federal penitentiary?

If we can’t get our shit together, the transformation we most fear will be complete in November.  I don’t want that.  Do you?

Rick Perry: “I Step Aside Knowing Our Party Is In Good Hands”

According to a published report by Heidi Przybyla and Fredreka Schouten of USA Today at 7:18 PM on September 11, 2015, Dallas businessman Doug Deason said Perry called him and his father, technology billionaire Darwin Deason, on Thursday to tell them he was leaving the race. The family was among Perry’s largest financial backers. Darwin Deason contributed $5 million to a pro-Perry super PAC this year and was prepared to spend more.

Perry “seemed down about it and relieved at the same time,” Doug Deason said. “We’re disappointed.”

He said a lingering abuse-of-power indictment in Texas, which Perry and his allies have dismissed as politically motivated, complicated the Republican’s bid. The unresolved case made it “harder for people to put money, time and the commitment behind him,” Deason said.

Perry’s debate stage “Oops” moment in 2012 has relentlessly dogged him, but he courageously asked for a second chance.  That second chance will not be realized.  He could not find a toehold in what he called “a tremendous field—the best in a generation.”  He went on to say, "As long as we listen to the grass roots, the cause of conservatism will be [in good hands] too."

John Hinderaker noted at Powerline that, “In a field of 17, it is inevitable that there will be some early dropouts. Personally, I would prefer that the casualties not be governors with great records. Bobby Jindal is another in that category who may not be around for the long haul. My own preference would be to see Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, George Pataki, Jim Gilmore and Lindsey Graham fall by the wayside. For some of the individuals on that list, it may not be long, but we can expect candidates like Huckabee and Santorum, who have more or less made a career out of running for president, to stick around as long as possible.”

Ten Buck Friday: The Haunting Of Harry Reid And The Democrats

With four days to go before Election Day, there is a palpable hope that control of the Senate will change hands.  The Democrats have had control of the Senate since 2006—eight years of purgatory for the American people.

The obstacle to bipartisan cooperation, Harry Reid has “piles of bills waiting for attention that could help Americans with jobs and help move the economy forward.”  Blocking GOP proposal after proposal after proposal, Reid has deliberately avoided tough votes that would embarrass The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer.

His strategy may have backfired.  Some are saying that not taking up GOP amendments gave embattled Democrats few chances to break with the president.  Their lockstep allegiance isn’t playing well and may portend a disastrous day at the ballot box.  Reid’s stifling hold on the Senate shaped the records they are defending this midterm.

Roll Call, which covers Capitol Hill, reported this week that “all of the most vulnerable Democrats voted with the president at least 96 percent of the time on the 120 votes on which he urged a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote.”  So, yeah, when The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer said his “policies are on the ballot, every single one of them,” you’d better believe they are.

Aaron Blake of The Washington Post cites the latest Harvard Institute of Politics poll which shows that Latinos, unmarried women and young people “have soured on the Democratic Party” and favor a GOP-controlled Senate.

Paraphrasing Dr. Charles Krauthammer, an anemic economy, governmental incompetence and the sense of national decline under this president and the minions in his party are the impetus for the current disenchantment.

Stuart Rothenberg opines that "President Barack Obama is about to do what no president has done in the past 50 years: Have two horrible, terrible, awful midterm elections in a row."

For the past nine weeks, a handful of conservative bloggers have taken part in a movement called Ten Buck Friday.  We highlighted a different senate race each week encouraging our readers to contribute $10 to the campaign coffers of Republican challengers to entrenched Democrats in Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

In this, our final posting before Election Day next Tuesday, our message is to ask you to volunteer by making phone calls, talking with friends, family, co-workers and neighbors encouraging them to exercise their right of franchise by casting their ballot.  Low turnout leads to bad government.  Make sure your vote counts to prevent a theft-proof election.  Let’s make this midterm a haunting experience for Harry Reid and his messiah.

Ten Buck Friday: The Train Wreck's Arriving Right On Schedule

Eleven days remain until Americans cast their ballots in the 2014 midterms.  Conservatives need to show up in record numbers if there is any chance to offset the stuffed ballots, rigged voting machines and illegal immigrants voting not only in early voting but on Election Day.

In 2010, voters gave the GOP historic victories and handed The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer a “shellacking” at the polls.  Most notable was the ouster of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House and Scott Walker’s victory in Wisconsin.

While I am loathe to quote a Democrat, this one from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt sums up what Ten Buck Friday is all about:

“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves—and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”

When retiring Tom Harkin (D-IA) isn’t confident Democrats can hold the Senate the edge the GOP has in the polls seems promising, but the decades-long agenda of the political/judicial/bureaucratic Democrat infrastructure will continue to give elections to Democrats unless we fight them at the voting booth.

If control of the Senate can be wrested from the hands of Harry Reid, America may be able to secure enough breathing room to recover from the failed presidency of The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer.

If Americans are truly dissatisfied with the direction of the country they simply must turn out at the polls.  Not bothering to vote because you are disgusted by politics guarantees the continued entrenchment of corrupt Democrats.  Rest assured they are counting on you staying home. 

Don’t kid yourself.  By staying home you are doubling the value of some diehard Democrat’s vote.  Is that what you want?

Get off your duff.  Talk with your friends, family, co-workers and scoop up five people on Election Day and go to the polls.  Stand guard over liberty and live in dignity.  We cannot afford to sit this election out.

Ten Buck Friday: Clearing The Decks

As recently as Wednesday of this week, The Hill  reported that dingbat Nancy Pelosi said voters weren’t responding to the GOP agenda.  She said, “We’ve out-mobilized them; we’ve out-recruited them; we’ve outraised them to a shameful extent. They’re desperate.”

She further opined, “Their days are numbered. I know that in two years, I know we’ll have a Democratic Congress and a Democratic president. I’d like it to be in two months.”

Asked if she was conceding that Republicans would hold the House in November’s midterms, Pelosi insisted, “No, I’m not." 

Michael Barone begs to differ. “Republicans retain big leads to pick up three open seats in states carried by Mitt Romney—West Virginia, Montana and South Dakota. Republican nominees have moved ahead of three Democratic incumbents in Romney states (Alaska, Arkansas, and Louisiana) and in two target states carried by President Obama (Colorado and Iowa)."

"Only in North Carolina, which Romney narrowly carried, has the Republican not yet overtaken the incumbent Democrat Sen. Kay Hagan—and her edge is narrowing in the most recent polls."

If Barone’s pedigree as a political analyst isn’t convincing enough, he points to analysts at The Washington Post, The New York Times, Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight, The National Journal’s Charlie Cook, Stuart Rothenberg and the guy who’s analysis I put great faith in, Larry Sabato, who all agree.

Sabato contends, “Right now, Democrats are behind the eight-ball.  So many undecided contests are winnable for the GOP that the party would have to have a string of bad luck—combined with a truly exceptional Democratic get-out-the-vote program—to snatch defeat from the wide-open jaws of victory. Or Republicans would have to truly shoot themselves in the foot in at least one race, which has become a clear possibility over the last few weeks in Kansas.”

The Free At Last PAC uploaded a damning ad on YouTube™ which employs a powerful quote from Thomas Sowell to criticize Louisiana’s Democratic senator Mary Landrieu:  “Politicians are not trying to solve our problems.  They’re trying to solve their own problems of which getting elected and re-elected are No. 1 and No. 2.”

Elbert Guillory expounds on Sowell’s quote, “You’re not Mary’s cause and you’re certainly not her charity.  You are just a vote.  Nothing less and nothing more.  For her, you’re just a means to an end so that she remains in power.  While you scrounge to gather food stamps to buy Kool-Aid™, she sips champagne at cocktail parties.  While you dig through the couch for gas money, she flies around in private jets funded by taxpayer dollars.  Mary Landrieu knows she doesn’t have to do anything for our community because no matter what she does 95% of us will line up and vote for her every single time.  Since 1996 black unemployment has doubled and the poverty rate for blacks has skyrocketed.  Mary hasn’t helped us at all.  So on November 4th, let’s send her back home to her father’s house or to her mansion in Washington, D.C. or to wherever the heck she lives because one thing is for sure she does not live here.”

While Guillory is critical of Landrieu, the sentiments are certainly applicable to too many incumbents, especially of entrenched Democrats.

While speaking at Northwestern University on Thursday, The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer said, "I am not on the ballot this fall.  Michelle’s pretty happy about that.  But make no mistake: these policies are on the ballot.  Every single one of them."

If ever there were a reason for Americans to be motivated to vote 31 days from today, those words from the president should be all the impetus they need.

Doyle McManus seems to think the November balloting is a “Seinfeld election” inferring its because “so much of the campaign seems to be about nothing.”  McManus writes for The Los Angeles Times.  It is a well-known fact that California has the largest state deficit in American history. Furthermore, California also has the dismal distinction of having the nation’s second-highest unemployment rate.  To this observer, McManus’ assertion that this election is about “nothing” is patently and egregiously absurd.

Each Friday between now and November 4th we are asking our readers to consider contributing $10 to the campaign of the candidate(s) we have highlighted that week.  Make sure to mark your contribution “Ten Buck Friday” so the candidate(s) will know the conservative blogosphere is with them in standing guard over liberty.  Remember to call your friends and remind them to go to the polls, to volunteer.  We cannot afford to sit this election out.

And The Winner Is…

Not me.  Clarice Feldman, who judged the 2012 PUK Awards contest, had a difficult task before her.

There were 28 nominated graphics that had to be pared down to 14 finalists.  iOwnTheWorld held cage matches to determine which entries would make the final cut.

I am genuinely sad that two of my friends, Diogenes’ Middle Finger and the prolific The Looking Spoon were not part of the finals.  The ultimate winner was my friend, Will Profitt of Capitalist Preservation.

The competition was tough from beginning to end.  I want to thank everyone who cast a vote for my work.  I want Ms. Feldman to know how honored I am that she chose my work to be among the Top Ten.

I am giddy with joy because when you do things from your heart you feel a river moving in you.

I’m Feeling More Charged Than A Visa Card At Christmas Time

This is it.  For the last two weeks I’ve updated everyone on the cage matches over at iOwnTheWorld.  The cage match solution became necessary when so many submissions were vying for the coveted PUK Award.

There were 28 nominations and the cage matches whittled the number down to 14 finalists who had created the best conservative agitprop for 2012.

Commenter joe6pak said, “From top to bottom, there is some great work there.”  And phil.arbeit wrote, “I think the overall level of the competition’s entries improve every year. Our artists are getting better and better! These are all winners already. To all the artists: Thanks for doing what you do for US!”

Two friends are finalists:  The Looking Spoon has three entries in the finals and Capitalist Preservation has one.  I am fortunate to have two entries in the Final 14. 

About one of my entries, Norman Einstein posted this comment, “Remember when there was REAL hope and change.  Hands down.” 

Referring to my other offering, MaryfromMarin wrote, “I’ll bet BHO would vote for 'Everything is going according to plan'. And would probably hang it in the private bathroom adjacent to the Oval Office.”

This year’s judge will be writer Clarice Feldman. Clarice is the most fitting judge we have ever had, because it is Clarice that introduced us to Peter Bocking, the namesake of the PUK awards. Puk was Peter’s online nickname, which was shortened from PeterUK. We will always miss you and will always try to live up to your most often stated refrain—“Make the bastards live by their beliefs.”

Rosalind J, commenting on the tough job the judge faces wrote, “I don’t envy her the job of deciding which of these should be declared the best. What are the odds of a three-way tie? Good luck Clarice!"

The winner will be announced Monday night at 8PM ET.

How cool would it be for there to actually be a three-way tie:  My two friends and me?  The anticipation is exciting.

Cage Match No. 11 came and went without much fanfare here.  That’s because iOwnTheWorld, the site that is hosting the contest to determine which website has created the best agitprop for 2012, took this past Sunday off and resumed the contest on Monday.

Clearly, I was preoccupied with the 2013 BCS National Championship Game between my beloved Alabama Crimson Tide and those beaten and battered little leprechauns from South Bend.

But I digress.  Cage Match No. 11 saw iOwnTheWorld pitted against The People’s Cube.  The Cube won hands down.

Wow, I thought for sure that the Alfred E. Neuman as Barack Obama graphic would have been chosen the winner in iOwnTheWorld’s Cage Match No. 8, but it lost by nearly 3 to 1 to Maksim’s entry.  I even created a graphic using that image for a caption contest and submitted it as an entry.

Cage Match #7 was a razor-thin victory for The People’s Cube.  Daletoons lost by a mere three votes.  Big Fur Hat cautions that every vote counts.  This is important because BFH is absolutely in love with the Alfred E. Neuman as Barack Obama graphic that appears to have been created by Mataleone which is being featured in Cage Match #8.

We are now in the throes of Cage Match No. 3 where two of my very favorites are going head-to-head:  Diogenes and The Looking Spoon.

The PUK Awards Cage Match #2

Yesterday I told you guys about the Cage Matches that iOwnTheWorld was employing to help determine this year’s winner of the PUK Awards.

After they sifted through all the nominations they pared down the competition to 28 finalists.

The finalist in Cage Match No. 1 was Stilton Jarlsberg’s HopeNChange Cartoons.  Congrats.

Cage Match No. 2 is in full swing with Zappatrust and Big Fur Hat going head-to-head.

Each cage match will begin at 8PM ET every night for the next two weeks. Each cage match will last 24 hours.

I have no idea who the remaining 24 finalists are or even if my work qualified as a finalist.  I guess I’ll find out over the next two weeks.

The PUK Award Cage Matches

On December 12^th I put up a post about The 2012 PUK Awards nominations.  The award is presented to the conservative website with the best graphic creations, also known as agitprop, used to influence and mobilize public opinion.

As any regular reader of this blog knows, I loves me some Photoshop™ and I’m very excited about iOwnTheWorld’s PUK Awards competition.

The nomination period ended on December 17^th and now the folks at iOwnTheWorld have sifted through the nominations and have 28 finalists.

They’ve decided to have 14 cage matches—a head-to-head competition in which everyone can cast a vote.

Each cage match will begin at 8PM ET every night for the next two weeks. Each cage match will last 24 hours.

The first cage match is running now through tomorrow.

I have no idea who the 28 finalists are or even if my work qualified as a finalist.  I guess I’ll find out over the next two weeks.

2012 PUK Awards (Please Vote For Me)

iOwnTheWorld has opened up nominations for their 2012 PUK Awards.  The coveted PUK Award is given out for the best conservative agitprop for the year.

For the uninitiated, The PUK Awards are named for iOTW’s most beloved reader Peter UK, who sadly passed away in November of 2009, well before his time. One of his last comments was, “Make The Bastards Live By Their Own Words.” It’s the inscription on the award.

Oh, you noticed yours truly is there too.  Toiling in obscurity, my efforts have been overshadowed by my utter anonymity.  Hopefully, one or more my offerings can change all that.

It’s Christmastime, so I hope the spirit of giving resides in your heart enough for you to nominate some of my work a few thousand times.  I’ve been a good little agitprop machine this year “making the bastards live by their own words” and surely you would want a deserving ‘shopper like me to feel your love.

The iOwnTheWorld staff will whittle the images down to the top 20. You, the readers, will vote on those 20 images. The Top Ten will be passed along to a Guest Judge who will be announced later.  The judge will put the nominations in numerical order, naming one of the pieces as the year’s PUK AWARD WINNER.
