New York Times Publishes Names of People Who Died of COVID-19 on Entire Front Page

Saved themselves the embarrassment of filling the front page with stories they'd have to retract in a day or two, I guess!

At the risk of being accused of "whataboutism", I don't recall the NYT filling the front page of their Sunday paper with the names of H1N1 victims? But it reminded me of something else, towards the end of the Bush Administration. The NYT published the names of all the soldiers who had died in Iraq...in Bush's war! It was a terrible thing, the media decried!~ All those soldiers' lives lost! Nightline did a special edition of nothing but Ted Koppel reading the names of those who had died in Iraq.
"Ted Koppel solemnly read aloud the names of 721 U.S. servicemen and women killed in the Iraq war during an unusual edition of "Nightline" Friday. Koppel's recitation - illustrated with corresponding photo, military branch, rank and age of each of the fallen since March 19, 2003 - occupied the expanded 40-minute program. There was no music, no graphic flourishes. Name followed name, photo followed photo..."
Doonesbury in the "funny papers", printed the list of soldiers killed in the Iraqi war. The "anti-war" movement was flourishing. Cindy Shehan camped outside of Bush's ranch in Texas. The media declared the ultimate right of a woman who had lost a son to combat to protest the war! These anti-war types were the genuine article! And really, really concerned about this...

...up until 2009. A new president...a Democrat president was inaugurated, and like the morning mists burned away by the blazing noonday sun...the anti-war liberals all disappeared! Well, Cindy Sheehan tried to extend her 15 minutes of fame by running for office in California, but no one wanted to interview her anymore, and her brief candidacy was swept away by a tsunami of apathy towards the plight of the U.S. soldier.

Obama ramped up activity in Afghanistan, yet saddled the military with near impossible Rules of Engagement, and the casualty count in Afghanistan started to rise precipitously. All with nary a peep from the anti-war Left. It was as if, liberals used the deaths of Americans to try to score points against their political opponents, but as a rule, just didn't give a damn otherwise!

It appears that the exact same thing is happening here. If somehow Trump can be associated with all these deaths, the liberals hope to score points in November. The "Paper of Record" never ran a front page of H1N1 deaths, or mounting casualties in Afghanistan or calling them "grim milestones" because a liberal was in office. Wouldn't want to embarrass him, don'tcha know?

But "Trump is Hitler", so all's fair!

Liberal Media Bias? Nah...

The Harvard University Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy just published a report that details the absolutely obscene anti-Trump bias of the liberal media.
The study found that in Trump's first 100 days in office, the tone of the news coverage of the president has been a whopping 80 percent negative to 20 percent positive.
CNN and NBC struck a 93 percent negative tone on their Trump stories, with only 7 percent positive. CBS was third in the anti-Trump race, with a 91 to 9 ratio. And the pro-Trump Fox News? That network was 52 percent negative to 48 percent positive.
This comes as no surprise to most conservatives and I trust it will open the eyes of some liberals. But it's effect on anti-Trumpers? It's like giving a band-aid to a man bleeding to death.

Washington Post Too Busy Polishing The Brass On The Titanic To Notice It's Sinking

Tom Hanks AKA Forrest Gump will narrate a 60-second commercial before the two-minute warning during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIII embracing social justice drivel about journalism’s larger importance to society.
“The Super Bowl is a remarkable moment to recognize the courage and commitment of journalists around the world that is so essential to our democracy,” said WaPo publisher and CEO Fred Ryan. “We decided to seize the opportunity to make this a milestone moment in our ongoing campaign.”
“This was a chance for a broader message about the role journalists play in our everyday lives and the risks they take to bring us the facts,” Ryan said.
The spot will end with the paper’s recent slogan, “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”
When news outlets recite an agenda instead of reporting events, when they devolve into the Democrat Party’s lapdog, they’re the ones who killed it.  Don’t expect us to mourn them.

CNN Asks: What Happened The Last Time A President Chose America’s Enemies Over Its Friends?

President Trump’s arch-enemy appears to be more popular with viewers interested in lifestyles of the rich and famous than news.  As their ratings continue to collapse, the only good day the cable news nitwits had during the second quarter of 2018 was the day of the Royal Wedding.  When it comes to fluff and pageantry CNN is your go-to source.  When it comes to actual news, an audience seeking to be well-informed ditch the network  faster than a toupee in a hurricane.

In a twisted version of the TV game show Jeopardy CNN asked, “What happened the last time a President chose America’s enemies over its friends?”

The lowly cable outfit published a repulsive piece authored by Manisha Sinha. The Indian-born American historian at the University of Connecticut suggested, “Donald Trump likes to compare himself to Andrew Jackson, but the Andrew he really resembles is Andrew Johnson. What they have in common are delusions of personal grandeur and a tainted ascent to the presidency. Trump was elected by a minority of the American electorate, with help from the vagaries of the Electoral College system and from considerable Russian interference.”

Sinha continues, “Johnson became President thanks to an assassin's bullet. While Johnson immodestly compared himself to Jesus and Moses, Trump claims he is the best at everything, even boasting recently on Twitter that his popularity among Republicans exceeds that of Abraham Lincoln.”

“Indeed, pundits have likened today's partisan divisions to those of the Civil War era. But they more closely resemble the politics of Reconstruction, the period after the war when for the first time in history, an American president, Johnson, was impeached by the House of Representatives.”

“But the resemblance between the two men goes deeper. Johnson's white-supremacist views were blatant and his policies precipitated a constitutional crisis that put the President at loggerheads with Congress and his own party, the Republicans.”

This “expert” takes great care to emphasize the following:

The Republican Party then was the liberal party of anti-slavery, big government and Lincoln. The Democrats were the party of white supremacy, Southern slaveholders and states' rights.

Sinha rather conveniently misses a critical point that is easily substantiated from a host of reputable sources which document Johnson was a Democrat. In 1862, Lincoln appointed him Military Governor of Tennessee.  In 1864 Republicans nominated Johnson for Vice President.  Lincoln was elected to a second term but was assassinated five months later in 1865.

CNN’s biased propaganda included a video accompanying Sinha’s screed featuring Richard Clarke, former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counterterrorism for Presidents Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

Clarke, an alleged liar and obvious Never Trumper opined, “The U.S role in the world is diminishing and the overriding thing that connects all of this is diplomatic malpractice by the President of the United States.  He is trying to do diplomacy, high-stakes diplomacy, in multiple arenas by himself; shooting from the hip.  This is a man who has no experience in national security, no experience in international diplomacy, who’s ignoring his advisers and we see the results.”

“Our influence, our respect around the world is diminishing.  The prospects of war are inching up because of his tweets, because of his impulse, because of his inexperience and the insistence on doing it himself.”

All The News That Fits...Our Agenda

Are you old enough to remember when the news and reporting was impartial? Okay, me neither. But are you old enough to remember when at least you thought the press was impartial? I point you to a story from the venerable AP:
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — About 800 “criminals” avoided immigration arrests because Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf alerted the public to the surprise operation, an extraordinarily high number of missed targets, according to a federal official.
Notice the "scare quotes" around "criminals"? University of Sussex has this to say about that:
Quotation marks used in this way are informally called scare quotes. Scare quotes are quotation marks placed around a word or phrase from which you, the writer, wish to distance yourself because you consider that word or phrase to be odd or inappropriate for some reason.
According to the feds, via the AP, half the people they've arrested in the Bay Area, in addition to immigrations violations, had criminal convictions for "assault, weapons offenses and driving under the influence." In personalizing the story for my local dead tree paper, there was this:
ICE said agents detained at least one Stockton man, from Mexico, who had been convicted for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old.
Let's recap... the AP puts "scare quotes" around the word criminal, in describing illegal aliens, who are prima facie criminals, but in addition have been, not accused, but convicted of various criminal acts, including assault, weapons offenses, DUI and lewd lascivious acts with a minor, and yet the AP doesn't want to call them criminals without some sort of wiggle room?

The use of scare quotes in describing illegal aliens as criminals is editorializing, which belongs on the editorial page, not the lede of what in the olden days, was envisioned to be impartial reporting. This is what you get when you have students at journalism schools telling you they want to change the world.

No Matter How Sweet The Lies May Taste

At 10:34 AM today the State Department tweeted out notification of an imminent announcement by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
A flurry of reports based on an exclusive story published by Carol E. Lee, Stephanie Ruhle and Dafna Linzer on behalf of NBC News touting the Secretary as having called President Trump a “moron” during a meeting with Pentagon officials and cabinet members.
The tensions came to a head around the time the President delivered a politicized speech in late July to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization Tillerson once led, the officials said.
Officials said that the administration, beset then by a series of high-level firings and resignations, would have struggled to manage the fallout from a Cabinet secretary of his stature departing within the first year of Trump’s presidency.
The NBC “story” went on to say Vice President Pence “spoke to Tillerson about being respectful of the president in meetings and in public, urging any disagreements be sorted out privately.”
In August, Trump was furious with Tillerson over his response to a question posed by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace concerning the president’s handling of the racially charged and deadly violence in Charlottesville, VA. “The president speaks for himself,” Tillerson said at the time.
Tillerson said Wednesday that he has never considered resigning his position, disputing the NBC News report that he was on the verge of such a move over the summer.
"The Vice President has never had to persuade me to remain as Secretary of State because I have never considered leaving this post," Tillerson said in remarks delivered from the State Department.
From the transcript of his remarks:
“To address a few specifics that have been erroneously reported this morning, the vice president has never had to persuade me to remain as secretary of state, because I have never considered leaving this post. I value the friendship and the counsel of the vice president and I admire his leadership within President Trump’s administration to address the many important agendas of President Trump, both from a foreign policy perspective and a diplomatic — I’m sorry, a domestic objective.”
“Let me tell you what I’ve learned about this president, whom I did not know before taking this office.”
“He loves his country. He puts Americans and America first. He’s smart, he demands results wherever he goes, and he holds those around him accountable for whether they’ve done the job he’s asked them to do.”
“Accountability is one of the bedrock values the president and I share. While I’m new to Washington, I have learned that there are some who try to sow dissension to advance their own agenda by tearing others apart, in an effort to undermine President Trump’s own agenda. I do not and I will not operate that way. And the same applies to everyone on my team here at the State Department.”
As the battle between the media and the president rages on the American public grows ever more weary of the bias and the salacious lies they purvey.  Creating outrage with their Trump bashing is their stock in trade.  As sweet as their lies may taste to them, they cannot mask the authentic progress the Trump Administration has made.

Kevin Harvick Wins First NASCAR Pole Award

Kevin Harvick with unidentified object

I don't spend a lot of time on the sports page. MLB lost me with the strikes. The NFL went SJW and left me behind, so I usually don't give the sports section more than a cursory glance. But something caught my eye yesterday: A NASCAR driver proudly holding a rifle.

This had possibilities!

But I checked several stories, mostly All Pablum, which never got around to telling us exactly what he'd won. Tupperware? A doorstop?? A year's supply of tofu burgers???

Just an educated guess on my part, but it looks a little like a lever action carbine. (Gun, to the uninitiated). Can't tell the caliber, but it looks like it might be tricked out a bit with some badges, maybe some special engraving. Would have been nice to acknowledge the gunmaker with at least a mention of his name. With the myriad of sponsors' logos on his jacket, NASCAR does not seem averse to capitalism.

 Must be an AP thing?

Hey Press Poodles, “Happy National Boss Day”

The notorious treasure trove of “Podesta Emails” demonstrates how the press has always been little more than an extension of the Clinton Machine.  Most of the press poodles and lamestream media stenographers see nothing wrong with their complicity.

Trump’s running mate, Gov. Mike Pence, made the rounds on Sunday’s talking head shows proclaiming, "The media is piling on with such unsubstantiated claims, ignoring an avalanche of hard evidence, documented evidence, of deeds by the Secretary of State" contained in the WikiLeaks email dump.

CNN’s Jake Tapper described DNC Chair Donna Brazile’s feeding debate questions to Clinton as “journalistically horrifying.”

Joe Concha, contributor for The Hill, put the media’s coverage of Campaign 2016 in glaring perspective when he compared the air time on network news to accusations against Trump and the WikiLeaks revelations related to Granny Clinton.
“Reaction to Trump's critique of the media by many left-leaning media members and advocates was about what one would expect, referring to it as dangerous and dark and totalitarian and conspiratorial and just about every other word from the 2016 Hyperbole Style Guide. Those conclusions, of course, are just air without any real foundation in terms of numbers or data to support it.”
[SKIP]
“In viewing recordings by The Hill of each major network's evening newscasts, which are watched by an average total of 22 million to 24 million people nightly, the newest batch of WikiLeaks revelations was covered for a combined 57 seconds out of 66 minutes of total air time on ABC, NBC and CBS.”
“Those leaked emails include derogatory comments about Catholics by senior Clinton campaign officials and more disturbing examples of collusion between the media and her campaign.  It’s newsworthy stuff.”
“On the other hand, allegations from four women of unwanted sexual advances by Trump were covered a combined 23 minutes.”
“Add it all up, and one presidential candidate's negative news of the day was somehow covered more than 23 times more than another candidate's negative news of the day.”
[SKIP]
“When looking at the numbers, Trump may actually have a point.”
Barry Casselman, who has not endorsed either candidate noted, “What we are now witnessing in the 2016 US presidential election is an unprecedented media coup d’Ă©tat as many of the combined media forces are attempting to determine the next president before the voting takes place.”

With the dereliction of duty by the nation’s largest media organizations and their role as propaganda arms of the Democratic Party, it bodes ill for the future of an already putrid media that no longer serves the best interests of Americans or the world.

This is precisely why the electorate ended up so angry.

Is Twitter Running Interference for Hillary?

I had noticed it before, but again, when I posted the following Tweet, I tagged Hillary in the photo:
Hillary's name disappeared, as it had in several other Tweets I'd noticed. As a test, I posted an old Photoshop of Trump and tagged him:
His tag survived intact. Is Twitter running interference for Hillary by refusing to tag any potentially embarrassing pictures or graphics bearing her name? Inquiring minds want to know!

Update: Just for grins, I Tweeted Hillary to see if maybe she'd blocked me. Nope. That ain't the reason!

The Pariah Messiah

An amusing chain of events has conspired to give hope to Americans who have felt for six interminable years that “things in the U.S. feel like they are out of control.”

The gatekeepers of the political narrative have overwhelmingly demonstrated their liberal bias by their puny coverage of the bad political news for Democrats this year.

The Media Research Center found that “when Democrats were feeling good about their election prospects eight years ago, CBS Evening NewsNBC Nightly News and ABC’s World News aired a combined 159 campaign stories (91 full reports and another 68 stories that mentioned the campaign). But during the same time period this year, those same newscasts have offered a paltry 25 stories (16 full reports and 9 mentions), a six-to-one disparity.”

The gates of mockery were opened on Sunday, October 19, 2014 when their messiah appeared at the Dr. Henry S. Wise High School in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank noted:
“Democrats left nothing to chance for President Obama’s first campaign rally of the 2014 election season Sunday evening. They arranged for him to speak in Prince George’s County, Md., which went 90 percent for Obama in 2012. They put him in the gymnasium of a middle school that shared a campus with Barack Obama Elementary School, which explains the ‘We Rock at Barack’ sweatshirts in the crowd. Some 90 percent of those in the audience were African American—a demographic that still supports Obama to the tune of 84 percent, vs. 30 percent of white Americans.”
“The man Obama was stumping for—Maryland gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown—has a healthy lead over his Republican opponent in reliably Democratic Maryland and therefore had little worry about sharing a stage with Obama. Even so, they left the presidential seal off the lectern, and Obama remained hidden offstage while Brown addressed the crowd.”
“Yet for all those precautions, Obama’s rare campaign appearance did not go as planned—and not only because a man heckled him for his refusal to block more deportations. With about five minutes to go in his 25-minute speech, about the time Obama said, ‘I’m just telling you what you already know,’ people began to trickle out. By the time he had finished, perhaps a few hundred had walked out on the president.”
Politico pool reporter Jennifer Epstein was dumbfounded:

Liberal-leaning editorial cartoonist, Jimmy Marguiles, drew a cartoon of The World’s Most Dangerous Community Organizer’s toxicity depicting him walking into the Oval Office with a character dressed in a full HAZMAT suit labeled “2014 Democratic Candidates” ushering him inside saying, “The quarantine is just through Election Day.”

Adding insult to injury, MSNBC’s Hardball host, Chris Matthews said, “It’s like Obama’s got Ebola.”

Over the past few weeks we’ve heard TWMDCO proclaim, “I’m not on the ballot this fall, but make no mistake; these policies are on the ballot.  Every single one of them.”

That’s a remarkably unhelpful statement that launched clumsy attempts by Alaska’s Sen. Mark Begich, and senatorial candidates Natalie Tennant (D-WV), Michelle Nunn (D-GA) and Alison Lundergan Grimes (D-KY) to flee like scalded dogs from the question of whether they voted for their messiah in 2008 and 2012.

So, what TWMDCO said rings true.  Poll after poll after poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans vehemently disagree with his policies believing he has been galactically incompetent and his administration scandal-ridden.  Democrats across the board have been in robotic lock-step.  That’s just what they do.  So like the numbskulls in the Geico horror commercial, they’ve made bad choices.  They can now be found in a garage crammed full of chainsaws hiding from the leader of their party.

Republicans have opposed him and that is what should carry the day on November 4th.

The Second Coming Of Herbert Hoover

The title of this post was heisted from Howie Carr’s piece at The Boston Herald.  Depending upon whose version of history you rely on, the indisputable truth about President Herbert Hoover was his epic failure to end the downward economic spiral known as The Great Depression.
Fred Barnes, Executive Editor of The Weekly Standard, puts forward the notion that the gelding who currently occupies the Oval Office “has been hurt by the media’s leniency.”

Both his presidency and reelection prospects have suffered. He’s grown lazy and complacent. The media have encouraged him to believe his speeches are irresistible political catnip, though they aren’t. His overreliance on words hasn’t helped.”
Dean Baker, Co-Director for The Center For Economic and Policy Research, recently chided The Washington Post for the conspicuous absence of expert ridicule of this president when Obama said, “I have to admit, I didn’t know how steep the climb was going to be. Because we didn’t realize—we just found out a week ago that the economy that last few months in 2008 was even worse than we had realized.”

Baker, writing for Business Insider offers his reasoning:
“It is true that the Commerce Department just revised down the GDP data to show that the decline at the start of the recession was even steeper than had previously been reported. However, by far the most meaningful measure of the steepness of the climb needed for recovery is the employment to population ratio (EPOP): the percentage of the working age population with jobs. This is reported monthly and is not subject to substantial revision.”

“President Obama's team always knew exactly how far the EPOP had fallen since the start of the downturn and therefore knows how many people must be put to work to get the economy back to full employment. The lower than previously reported GDP is an interesting piece of information, but tells us almost nothing new about how much ground must be made up.”

“The Post should have included the comments of economists ridiculing the idea that President Obama has just now discovered how bad the downturn was. It might even be worth a separate article or two. If the statement is actually true (i.e. President Obama just realized how bad the downturn was) then it is deserving of far more attention than his comment about working class whites being bitter and clinging to gun and religion before the Pennsylvania primary.”

Clearly, with this president we have moved past Jimmy Carter V2.0, past Herbert Hoover into Nero imagery.
