Right Jabs For December 16, 2012

This week’s Right Jabs edition is a more somber, reverent one.  One tiny town in America has been stricken by the unimaginable.

As more information emerges about the young man who wrought such evil and the heroes who fought back against him, we as a nation, reflect with grief and deepest sorrow the lives left behind that have been forever changed.

There are many reasons to despise the current American media.

For once, think of Newtown, the town where Christmas will never be the same. A place where school will never hold the same sense of security for the children or their families, Parents in Newtown will never drop their children off at the school doors again without telling them how much they love them.  So spare us all for a decent interval the long distance shibboleths of gun control, the amateur psychoanalysis, the morbid and soul-killing paparazzi shots of parents learning for the first time of the slaughter of their children. Let's have a decent silence to contemplate the eternal nature of evil and the tragic loss we all feel.

He could also take pleasure in giving his wife the best Christmas present ever.

…the sixties are now complete: A president supported by an ex-Weatherman and the New Black Panthers might as well have a Winter Soldier in his cabinet for the complete Radical Chic Meets Geritol experience. If only Leonard Bernstein was still around to savor the moment.

A cliff is no place to look shy, timid or lost.

Beneath the expressions of grief, sorrow and disbelief over the Connecticut school massacre lies an uneasy truth in Washington:  over the last few years the Obama administration and Congress quietly let federal funding for several key school security programs lapse in the name of budget savings.

The great ship Truth and Reality is sinking and fast, and it’s imperative that we RIGHT the ship before it’s too late.

So as a nation, we've made the decision to guard our money with armed security officers.   At the same time, when Americans send their children to school, what guards them?  School secretaries.  Video cameras.  Metal detectors.  Gun-Free zones.  In other words, nothing.  If this country really loves its kids, we'd better start protecting them at least as well as we protect our money.

If Democrats really want to go down this road, perhaps they should practice what they preach. In 2011, Gallup did a survey of self-reported gun ownership in the U.S.  What did they find?

Holy Innocents
by Christina Georgina Rossetti

Sleep, little Baby, sleep,
The holy Angels love thee,
And guard thy bed, and keep
A blessed watch above thee.
No spirit can come near
Nor evil beast to harm thee:
Sleep, Sweet, devoid of fear
Where nothing need alarm thee.

The Love which doth not sleep,
The eternal arms around thee:
The shepherd of the sheep
In perfect love has found thee.
Sleep through the holy night,
Christ-kept from snare and sorrow,
Until thou wake to light
And love and warmth to-morrow.
