Cap’n Bill And The Mailman’s Son Want To “Save America”

The effete aristocrat who loves opera, Greek philosophy and battles President Trump in his magazine The Weekly Standard, on CNN and MSNBC and his quirky Twitter account has come up with a stratagem to save America.

During the 2016 primary season he watched in abject horror as one GOP candidate after the other (Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Jim Gilmore, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and John Kasich) surrendered to the man he called “loathsome”, “a con man”, “a charlatan and a demagogue”.

Trump didn’t just steamroll the Republican field he made a mockery of the cherished conservative ideals Kristol has spent more than 30 years touting.

Each year The Weekly Standard embarks on an annual cruise for which its subscribers pay several thousand dollars for a cabin on the ship and a chance to spend time with its founder Cap’n Bill Kristol.

During the 2017 cruise, Kristol’s sardonic sense of the gallows began to anger his readers. His unrelenting drumbeat of criticism for the Trump Administration grew pointless and his readers told him so every chance they got.

To Trump, Kristol IS the rigged system he’s fighting against, the personification of an elite establishment overdue for a rude awakening.

Kristol has a reputation for predictions gone wrong. In 2002, he said military action in Iraq “would start a chain reaction in the Arab world that would be very healthy.” He insisted the Bush tax cuts would ease the deficit, rather than exploding it. In 2008, he predicted Obama would not win a single presidential primary; in 2011, that Rudy Giuliani would run for President; and, in 2015, that Joe Biden would. On different occasions late in the Obama era, Kristol declared that Jennifer Granholm, the former Michigan governor, was about to be picked as a Supreme Court Justice and likely to wind up on a national ticket as Obama’s Vice-President.

Kristol badly wants a Republican to primary President Trump in 2020. The smarmy “conservative” has been traveling to Iowa and New Hampshire in search of that someone.

In New Hampshire this past Wednesday, Kristol, speaking to an audience at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics said two-term Ohio Gov. John Kasich would be "the most obvious candidate" to primary Trump though the governor’s personality and moderate politics have turned off leaders in Kristol’s orbit. No shit, Sherlock.

Kristol acknowledged that he could be wrong about the state of the Republican Party—that it’s possible Republicans won’t be convinced they made a mistake and will re-nominate Trump.

When Doody Calls

“My father was a mailman.” 

That bit of idyllic family history has me wondering why no other offspring of mailmen have sought to run for president.  Obviously, John Kasich distinguishes himself as the pick of the litter; uniquely qualified and profoundly prepared to lead the country.

Seth McLaughlin, Politics Desk Reporter for The Washington Times wrote, “From his perch in the Ohio governor’s mansion, Republican John Kasich is keeping a keen eye on President Trump’s every move and showing a willingness—some say eagerness—to hurl rotten tomatoes toward the leader of his Party when he gets upset with the act.”

“He has become a go-to anti-Trump source for the media and often doesn’t even wait for the press to call. Instead, he leaps in to pile on after presidential missteps.”

“While insisting he wants Mr. Trump to succeed, Mr. Kasich has pointedly refused to rule out mounting a primary challenge against the president in 2020. He said he wants to maintain a voice in the party because ‘you never know when duty calls.’”

Kasich is a rude SOB.  Ask the Ohio State trooper he called “an idiot” when he ticketed him for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle; or the crusade he went on making sure his local Blockbuster store took the film “Fargo” off its shelves.

“Usually, I speak out against the status quo on behalf of the little guy, but sometimes I get a little crazy and go off about something like this Fargo business, with no real expectation but to let off some steam. I can’t imagine it’s all that much fun to be on the receiving end of one of my tirades, but I’m here to tell you it isn’t much fun to be making the delivery either.”

Kasich is a hothead.  While on the campaign trail during the 2016 presidential election, he got angry and grabbed a recorder from a reporter for The Financial Times who made the mistake of asking why he should be the nominee of the Republican Party having won only one state.

Kasich has a long history of uttering gaffes. He showed off his love for Hispanics by saying he always leaves a nice note for the Latina maids at hotels. A month after that comment, he said anyone who would have problems with his cuts to social security should “get over it.” Kasich praised all the women who came out of the kitchen to vote for him during his first political run in the 1970s.

While campaigning in New York, he took it upon himself to condescendingly explain Bible stories to rabbinic scholars.

His most covered gaffe was when he advised a young woman worried about the college rape epidemic to avoid alcohol-fueled parties. 

“Kasich eating” was one of the top Internet searches during the campaign.  Then-candidate Trump scorched the mailman’s son proclaiming, “I have never seen a human being eat in such a disgusting fashion.”

The Ohio governor has no plans to challenge Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown who is up for re-election this year, but the chatter for the 2020 presidential election has heated up.  “There has to be fundamental chance, in my opinion, with all of us.  I’m willing to be a part of that.  I want my voice to be out there,” Kasich said.

The pick of the mailman’s litter has spoken.

How Many Times Must The Mailman’s Son Run For President?

During the primaries leading up to Trump’s eventual nomination for president there was a tiresome, self-inflated idiot far too many Republicans simply could not stomach.  That idiot was John Kasich.

His platform then included immigration amnesty, foreign intervention, Medicaid expansion and only modest resistance to sweeping social change. He espoused his views with a rather grating degree of sanctimony.

Kasich wants to be a good guy, but, even more than that, he wants you to recognize he’s a good guy who’s possibly better than you. He likes to cite Matthew 25, in which Jesus speaks of doing unto “the least of these,” citing it confrontationally to people who question his policies. “You know what I tell them? There’s a book. It’s got a new part and an old part. They put it together. It’s a remarkable book. If you don’t have one, I’ll buy you one. And it talks about how we treat the poor.” 

A commenter at Ace Of Spades demurred, “Kasich seems like that weird guy in the rest room who pees with his hands on his hips.”

He drew ire from Republicans who supported Ted Cruz. Having earned a measly 154 delegates and winning only one contest in his home state of Ohio, he made it much easier for Trump to garner the 1,237 delegates needed to become the nominee of his party without a contested convention.

Marco Rubio, who left the race in March had more delegates than Kasich.

He ignored calls from a growing number of party officials to quit the race, saying he, not Cruz, presented the best option to stop Trump.

His pigheadedness defied all logic.  It reminded me of the ending credits of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where Ferris comes into a hallway in his bathrobe saying, “You’re still here?  It’s over.  Go home…Go.”

Well, the mailman’s son is teaming up with Colorado’s Democrat governor John Hickenlooper to challenge President Trump in 2020 in what his political advisor John Weaver called a “unity” ticket.

Weaver, it should be noted, was behind the losing presidential bids of John McCain─twice─ and Jon Huntsman.

We always knew he was a closet Democrat.  Maybe the good people of Ohio would prefer he focus on the state’s failing schools, inner city violent crime, the public pension shortfall and the deadly opioid epidemic.

Go home John.  Nobody wanted you in 2016 and they certainly won’t want to support a narcissistic RINO turncoat in 2020.  Just go.
