Jerry Nadler’s Zipper Vs. The Horowitz Report

As this decade draws to a close, the political calendar for Monday will feature the Heavyweight Fight Card of Fat Jerry Nadler’s Zipper versus The Horowitz Report.

At 9:00 AM from the Longworth House Office Building, the House Judiciary Committee will hold its second impeachment hearing entitled “The Impeachment Inquiry into President Donald J. Trump:  Presentations from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Judiciary Committee.”

Sometime Monday morning DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report into the FBI’s intrusive wiretapping powers will be made public.  Release of the IG’s report follows revelations in October that a related—and equally politically charged—examination of the origins of the Russia investigation has shifted to a criminal probe.

Horowitz, during the more than a year-and-a-half investigation, has not commented on his investigation into FISA court abuses to issue secret warrants by “dirty cops” to monitor persons within the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.  Warrants were renewed several times by judges based on uncorroborated information obtained by disgraced British spy Christopher Steele and paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Thus far, four Inspector General reports and internal Justice Department documents have found senior FBI officers guilty of lying, insubordination, security violations, mishandling confidential material and personal biases against President Trump.

Media outlets whose implicit agenda has been to damage this president have deliberately downplayed the significance of Horowitz’s report.

If you believe, as many do, the Democrats are governed by the clock and the calendar in moving forward with Articles of Impeachment the facts are these:

Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Horowitz on November 18th inviting him to testify before the committee on his findings.  Horowitz agreed to the date authorized by Graham which he set for December 11, 2019.

Horowitz Cc’d his letter to Dianne Feinstein who is the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and to Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.  In addition, copies were sent to Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

Horowitz gave assurances the “lengthy” report would be published with few redactions and without a need to prepare or issue “separate classified and public versions of the report.”

When asked if Chairman Nadler would hold a hearing on the FISA report once it is released, Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) said, "No chance. Jerry Nadler is going to run, not walk, away from any opportunity to bring the Inspector General in to talk about these issues."

The ranking member on the Committee, Georgia Republican Doug Collins, has asked Nadler to schedule a hearing. "FISA oversight falls squarely within the Judiciary Committee’s jurisdiction. We must act swiftly to address concerns outlined in the Inspector General’s report," he wrote in a letter to Nadler.

“I’m not aware of any terrible problem with the FISA court and specifically not with the Carter Page application,” Nadler said.

More than two months later, a hearing focused on Horowitz's report has not been scheduled by the committee. A representative for Nadler did not respond to a request for comment.

Republican Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows also pressed House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (she replaced Rep. Elijah Cummings who died recently) to hold a FISA report hearing, making the request in a letter. A representative for Maloney did not respond to a request for comment about whether such a hearing might be scheduled.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler told CNN's Jake Tapper that his personal view is Trump "richly deserves impeachment.  He has done many impeachable offenses.  He’s violated the law six ways from Sunday.  But that’s not the question.  The question is can we develop enough evidence to put before the American people.” 

President Trump has often referred to the chairman, a New York Democrat, as “Fat Jerry”.  The moniker is spot on.  His trousers are hiked up to his chin making his zipper the longest one known to mankind.  But he reminds me more of Danny Devito’s Penguin role in the 1992 Tim Burton directed movie “Batman Returns”.

Oswald Cobblepot AKA Penguin AKA “Fat Jerry” has shared a decades-long feud with the President over his desire in the 1980s to build the world’s tallest building as part of a major redevelopment of a railyard on Manhattan’s West Side which was part of Nadler’s State Assembly District.

For years, Nadler had said he wanted the development site to be turned into a rail freight terminal, in order to help the city’s manufacturing sector which at the time employed more than 500,000 people.

Some of Nadler’s biggest political contributions have come from transportation workers unions. The Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Union was among his single biggest donors, contributing $115,500 to his campaigns for Congress since 1991, public records show.

Trump’s grand vision entailed building 7600 high-rise apartments, the largest shopping mall on the East Coast and sprawling television studios for NBC.  The crowning jewel was to be a lavish 152-story condo where Trump would occupy the penthouse.

According to a published report from the New York Post, “Trump got involved in the project after real estate magnate Abe Hirschfeld and his partners defaulted on their loans. Like those before him, the young developer faced off against Nadler and his backers — a phalanx of resident celebrities that included authors E. L. Doctorow, Robert Caro and Betty Friedan. Their neighborhood coalition threw glitzy cocktail fundraisers and distributed flyers warning residents that Trump’s luxury skyscraper would cast a huge shadow over the neighborhood and cover local parks in darkness for most of the day. The influx of thousands of people working at the proposed television studios and mall would overwhelm the neighborhood’s fragile infrastructure, especially the 72nd Street subway, they said.”

Nadler appeared on the Sunday talk shows defending Robert Mueller’s testimony to two congressional panels last week, but a new ABC News/Ipsos poll shows the former Special Counsel’s appearance failed to move the needle on whether the President should be impeached.

Seventy-one percent of Americans said they had either read, seen or heard about his testimony while forty-seven percent said it made no difference in their views.  It was a wash on supporting impeachment with 27 percent saying they were “more likely” and 26 percent being “less likely.”

The latest Real Clear Politics Presidential Job Approval continues to hover around 44 percent.

Blogger friend Don Surber recently noted, “We elected a playboy billionaire president because none of the virgins could get the job done.”

Discovery Channel’s Shark Week kicks off tonight at 8PM.  The popular summer event is the longest-running cable program in history and is now broadcast in 72 countries.

It looks like Donald John Trump has Nadler between a rock and a shark place.

Jerry Nadler’s Zipper Fainted

During a press conference about speed enforcement cameras in school zones at Manhattan’s PS 199, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler nearly fainted.  

Nadler who was seated beside groundhog murderer Mayor de Blasio began to “look pale and his head dropped into his hands,” according to The Daily News.

“De Blasio reached over to comfort Nadler and white-coated doctors rushed onto the dais behind a sign reading Speed Cameras Save Lives.”

After being taken to the hospital Nadler tweeted an update: “Appreciate everyone’s concern. Was very warm in the room this morning, was obviously dehydrated and felt a bit ill. Glad to receive fluids and am feeling much better. Thank you for your thoughts.”

It would behoove him to loosen his belt a bit underneath his armpits.

I’m going to hell for mocking Jerry Nadler, but I ain’t the only one.

In 2016, the New York Post reported staffers at the Democratic National Committee made fun of Nadler’s enormous girth.  It seems Nadler’s office asked to attend an Obama fundraiser in June of that year.

“Do you really want Nadler there?” Jordan Kaplan, then DNC national finance director, asked the White House.

DNC staffer, Zach Allen, took to mocking Nadler’s weight in an email exchange: “Homeboy is NOT little.”

Kaplan chimed in: “I thought he got his tummy tucked.”

Allen responded: “He did, but like [Chris] Christie it all came back.”

The exchange was part of the pile of DNC released by WikiLeaks.

I feel genuine compassion for Nadler after watching the video.  I wish him no ill will where his health is concerned.
