An industry struggling
to atone for its past chose to invite little Jimmy Kimmel to host the Academy
Awards for the second year in a row─the guy who said, “It just so happens that
almost every talk show host is a liberal and that’s because it requires a level
of intelligence.”
Last year’s show was saturated
with fear and loathing of the newly inaugurated President Trump. This year’s
telecast came in the age of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.
In 1999 man-child Kimmel
declared the Comedy Central series, “The Man Show”, would be by men, for men,
about men to include beer-chugging, boob-ogling and a resentment of feminism’s
encroachments.
One wonders how the Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) could have plausibly thought Kimmel would be the
ideal ambassador of the #MeToo message when he produced a show named “Crank Yankers”
and starred in a homophobic musical titled, “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck.”
The Oscars, running nearly
four hours long, stumbled
19 percent from the previous year to 26.5 million viewers making it the least-watched
Oscars since 1992, trailing 2008 by more than 5 million. Overnight
returns had the telecast averaging an 18.9 rating among households between 8
and 11 p.m. ET.
The folks who correlate
the data want to blame the ratings decline on viewers streaming their favorite
content online, but ABC only allowed viewers with cable subscriptions to stream
the broadcast.
Somebody had
better wake up and smell the skunk stink.
Most of America is waaaay past being tolerant of lectures from Hollywood
elites.
