Around 1:15 AM Baghdad time (5:15 PM Eastern Time)
Iraqi state TV and Al-Sumaria TV reported U.S. Coalition forces destroyed a two-vehicle
convoy belonging to Hashd Al-Shaabi inside the city of Taiji, Iraq killing
several members of a paramilitary group known as the Popular Mobilization Unit
which has close ties to Iran.
This second strike came
just hours ahead of a planned march mourning the Iranian Quds Force Commander
Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who were torn to shreds in a precision
drone strike at Baghdad International Airport the day before.
News outlets in this
country and abroad quickly took as gospel the reporting on Iraqi state TV
however, Myles B. Caggins, III, spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolves
categorically denied responsibility:
FACT: The Coalition @CJTFOIR did NOT conduct airstrikes near Camp Taji (north of Baghdad) in recent days.— OIR Spokesman Col. Myles B. Caggins III (@OIRSpox) January 4, 2020
One source, DailyMail.com,
updated its original reporting at 18:45 EST on January 3 saying at 01:03 EST on
January 4, “initial reports pinning responsibility for the strike on the U.S.
and contradictory accounts from Pentagon sources” as the reason.” They expounded further “It remains unclear whether
the convoy was attacked by ground-based rockets or another military with air
capabilities in the area.”
The Pentagon referred their inquiry to U.S. Central
Command (CENTCOM) which did not respond to their request for comment, however Sen. James Risch (R-ID),
Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and No. 2 on the Senate
Intelligence Committee, said he had been briefed on the latest strike but declined
to comment further until information about the strike is declassified.
So who did it? Israel
has been mum. I’ve vigorously searched
for any clues that might point to the military forces capable of dusting the
hapless vermin. In any case, the Obama
Administration subsidized the Iranian regime by paying it tribute. This President’s resolve is indomitable. He doesn’t want to turn Iran into a sheet of
glass, but don’t push him.
EXIT QUESTION: Does anyone know what flavor of ice cream the
President was “dining on” when this latest strike went down? Asking
for the crazy “journalists” at CNN.
