On New Year’s Eve
Politico published
a piece declaring, “The Trump Administration’s decision to deploy Marines in
response to an assault on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad shows its eagerness to
avoid a repeat of the Benghazi controversy that dogged the Obama Administration
and Hillary Clinton’s State Department.”
That same day, MSNBC’s
Joy Reid appeared be cheering on the Iranian-backed terrorists who were attacking
the embassy:

On Friday, December 27th,
Kataeb Hezbollah (Hezbollah Brigade) fired as many as 30 rockets at a military
compound near Kirkuk in Northern Iraq killing an American U.S. Defense
Department contractor and injuring four U.S. service members along with two
members of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF).
In response, U.S.
forces conducted precision defensive strikes on five sites including weapons
storage facilities and command and control locations across Iraq and Syria killing
at least 25 and injuring dozens more.
The two-day crisis
started early on New Year’s Eve when thousands of terrorists aligned with an
Iraqi paramilitary group stormed the heavily fortified compound of the U.S. embassy
in Baghdad surrounding some of its buildings and setting fire to one of its
gates.
They shouted, “God is
great, and America is the great Satan,” scaling the walls and surrounding a
reception area with U.S. soldiers standing inside. One terrorist sprayed
“Closed by order of the people” on the wall of the embassy’s compound and another
held up a sign threatening the “American enemy.”
More than one hundred
U.S. Marines arrived at the embassy in Baghdad early on Tuesday to help bolster
security and around 10:00 AM news wires began feverishly reporting “Pro-Iranian
demonstrators have left the besieged U.S. embassy in Baghdad.”
At least
750 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division were also deployed to the
region. The USS Harry S. Truman strike
group armed with hundreds of Tomahawk cruise missiles has been in the Gulf of
Oman for some time and there are already 5,000 U.S. troops currently deployed
in Iraq.
Department of Defense
Secretary Dr. Mark T. Esper, said in a written
statement, “This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action
taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities. The United States will protect our people
and interests anywhere they are found around the world.” [emphasis mine]
So, no, “Trump’s
Benghazi” did not unfold Joy, honey.
Former CIA ops officer
Bryan Dean Wright tweeted:
“Trump’s Benghazi” is now ending with no dead Ambassador, no dead service members, and the enemy withdrawing.— Bryan Dean Wright (@BryanDeanWright) January 1, 2020
A disappointing conclusion for Joy Reid and The Resistance, no doubt, but a great day for America. https://t.co/hV1fJ3YivD
Here's a Happy New Year tweet
from Col. Myles B. Caggins, III, spokesperson for Operation Inherent Resolve
(OIR):

Last night, #Marines flew to Baghdad in Ospreys on to protect staff & facilities. 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏾 يا للروعة ...انظروا من الذي حلق مع طيور النعام للعام الجديد ! انهم قوات المشاة البحرية الاميركية في بغداد أتوا لحماية المنشآت والموظفين. أهلا بكم. pic.twitter.com/8yKtZ8d74p— OIR Spokesman Col. No dead service members, no dead ambassador, no “awful
YouTube™ video is being blamed, no lying to family members of victims, no
delays in giving help to a besieged embassy, no 13 hours. More
like 13 minutes after U.S. Marines landed in Baghdad to watch the Iranians
flee into the desert like cowards.
Thank you, President Trump.
