“Governor Romney, Get Your Success,” Said Walesa. “Be Successful!”

AP Photo—Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney meets with Poland's former President Lech Walesa, Monday, July 30, 2012, in Artus Court, in Gdansk, Poland.

Mitt Romney is slated to deliver a “values of liberty” speech at Warsaw University on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

On Monday, Romney traveled to Gdansk, Poland at the invitation of Lech Walesa, the ex-shipyard electrician, Nobel Prize winner and former Solidarność (Solidarity) leader. Gdansk, it should be noted, is a city intimately familiar with tyrannical oppression and home to Ronald Reagan Park which features a statue of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II.

Walesa, along with Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and the Pope were instrumental in bringing down the Iron Curtain.

David Lightman, for McClatchy Newspapers, writes:
The trip is designed to remind everyone of "U.S. support of Poland as a captive nation during the Cold War," as well as Reagan's support of the Solidarity movement, said Ian Brzezinski, Romney's foreign-policy adviser.
Romney also hopes to remind U.S. voters of Walesa's frosty relationship with Obama.
Walesa rejected an invitation to meet with Obama when the president visited Poland last year. Reports said Walesa was annoyed that he could not a have a one-on-one meeting. Romney will stress he's coming to Poland at Walesa's invitation.
Conservatives have sharply criticized Obama for his treatment of Poland, particularly the 2009 decision to reverse the Bush administration decision to develop a missile defense shield system based partly in Poland. The country's leaders were concerned that Obama was going too far in his "reset" of relations with the Russians.
The president also stumbled in May, when he referred to a World War II "Polish death camp."
Obama made the remark during a Medal of Freedom ceremony for Jan Karski, a resistance fighter against the Nazi occupation of Poland. The president said: "Before one trip across enemy lines, resistance fighters told him that Jews were being murdered on a massive scale and smuggled him into the Warsaw Ghetto and a Polish death camp to see for himself."
Polish officials were outraged at the awkward phrasing that suggested the death camps were Polish, when they were run by the Nazis who held Poland captive. The White House quickly said it was referring to "Nazi death camps in Poland" and Obama expressed regret over the comment in a letter to Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski.
In his meeting today, Walesa said through a translator, “I wish you to be successful because this success is needed to the United States, of course, but to Europe and the rest of the world, too. Governor Romney, get your success, be successful!”

Walesa, I strongly believe, is trying to warn us.

Bill Clinton To Nominate Obama At DNC Convention

Former President Bill “it depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is” Clinton will give a primetime speech on Tuesday, September 5, in which he is expected to starkly lay out the differences in the economic policies of the two parties and describe why the errand boy sent by grocery clerks is the best choice compared to presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

President Jug Ear’s campaign believes Clinton can deliver a forceful fiscal message that it hopes can resonate with the middle class and tout how he left the country with a surplus which was later erased by Republicans.  What Bubba won’t talk about though, is how his failure to kill or capture Osama bin Laden when he had the chance led to 9/11 and that waging the global war on terror helped to erase the surplus.

That forceful fiscal message will become a forceful walk-back of his June remarks to NBC’s Brian Williams when he plainly said delaying any changes in the Bush tax cuts was “probably the best thing to do right now,” since there’s no real chance of a larger-scale fiscal reform deal until 2013.

Something similar occurred days before, when Clinton said on CNN that Mitt Romney has a “sterling business career” and that the campaign shouldn’t be about what kind of work Romney did.

“I don’t think we ought to get into the position where we say this is bad work; this is good work,” Clinton said, adding: “There’s no question that, in terms of getting up, going to the office, and basically performing the essential functions of the office, a man who’s been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold.”

On July 18, 2012, Nancy Pelosi told Politico that she was encouraging her members of Congress to skip the convention, “I’m not encouraging anyone to go to the convention, having nothing to do with anything except I think they should stay home, campaign in their districts, use their financial and political resources to help them win their election.”

Democratic strategist James Carville, as late as June of this year, warned Team Obama that the American people “want to be reassured of him that he understands the depth of the problem and that he has a plan to deal with the deterioration of the middle class.”

Things haven’t improved for the middle class or anyone else, for that matter, and the Ragin’ Cajun issued this melancholic email:
"I wish I had good news for you. I want to tell you that President Obama has a second term in the bag. I want to tell you that the Koch Brothers are giving up their plot to buy the election. But here's where things really stand:  We're gonna have to go through hell and high-water to win this damn thing. It's gonna be hard. Every big-oil billionaire and Republican Super PAC is throwing the kitchen sink at President Obama. If we don't fight back, it'll be over long before November."
From your lips to God’s ears, James, ‘ol buddy.  From your lips to God’s ears.

Mitt Romney In Jerusalem Delivers Strong Speech In Support of Israel

Chick-fil-A® Ruffling The Feathers Of Religious Bigotry

As I write this post it is Sunday.  The Sabbath—a day of rest and a time of worship—a quaint relic of a long-forgotten age.

Sometime around 1980, the rise of big-box stores like Wal-Mart, chain restaurants and entertainment venues expanded commerce to seven days a week.  The secularization of our American society had a lot to do with tossing out the tradition of keeping the Sabbath Day holy, but that’s a story for another time.

On July 16, 2012 when the Baptist Press interviewed President and COO of Chick-fil-A®, a firestorm erupted.  The controversy was set in motion when Dan Cathy said he supported traditional marriage; that subversive belief that marriage is between a man and woman. "We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit.  We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives."

Atlanta, where Chick-fil-A’s headquarters is located, is ranked eighth behind New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, Houston and Seattle for the largest population of gays in America.  Yet, not until Dan Cathy made his personal ideology known, did the “gay community” run around with their hair on fire.  Inman Park and Little Five Points never uttered a peep of criticism toward the restaurant chain which has been in existence since 1967 when it opened its first restaurant in a suburban mall in Atlanta.

So, what we have here are three American cities with a gay population who suddenly feel outrage because Rahm Emanuel, Tom Menino and Ed Lee have declared an all out “chicken war.”

Mark Steyn opines, “If you're a feminist or a gay or any of the other house pets in the Democratic menagerie, you might want to look at Rahm Emanuel's pirouette, and Menino's coziness with Islamic homophobia.”

Rahm “Deadfish” Emanuel should worry more about his city’s murder rate which is higher than the Third World metropolises of Mexico City and Sao Paolo.  His Honor has lost control of the streets and his desperation has caused him to enlist the services of the infamous anti-Semite and Nation of Islam leader, “Calypso Louie” Farrakhan.  Yeah, that’ll help.

When you need the likes of Farrakhan to control the South and West side of Chicago, you truly are the mayor of a shithole.

In Ed Lee’s corner of the world, San Francisco, where you can abort children but you cannot buy a goldfish, Lee has been implicated in a major corruption scandal that could cost city taxpayers upwards of $16 million.  His Honor tweeted, “Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn’t share San Francisco’s values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.”

Hey Ed, you’ll pardon me for saying that your values ain’t nothin’ to brag about and you should keep your pie hole closed and reopen it only on the witness stand.

So America, ignore these churlish little men in Chicago, Boston and San Francisco.  Why not join the rest of us who genuinely enjoy eating in a restaurant that is clean and serves scrumptious chicken sandwiches and lemonade so good it'll make you want to slap your momma.

Here’s a thought:  Why not sport a We Chick-fil-A® decal on your car and show the world you support a restaurant that closes on Sunday to give its employees a day of rest, believes in operating debt-free and devotes a percentage of its profits to community charities.

Right Jabs For July 28, 2012

Politics is not a playground, it’s a battlefield.  Here’s some links to the news you can use from conservative bloggers, not the corporate-controlled stenographers from Central Planning.

…homosexuality is a death sentence under Shariah law, but it seems that, at least according to the MSM and American liberals, that Chick-fil-a is a far greater threat.

If the idea behind last night’s three-hour, tour-de-force of complete crap was to out-spectacle Beijing, then sorry, Britain, you’ve failed. The entire thing, which supposedly was all about the history of English Civilization, was short on history and chock-full of Stagecraft 101 chintz.

And all the while paying lip service to the outmoded model of “objectivity” out of one side of their lavaliere, and out of the other, never failing to show their fealty to both Barack Obama and whichever tin-plated foreign tyrant gives them access to a live feed.

What can Romney and Republicans say about Obama without being called racist?

Charles Krauthammer @krauthammer @pfeiffer44 I await Pfeiffer’s retraction and apology.

Thank you, Sarah, for bringing out the best in them again.

There have to be thousands of severely injured veterans who feel much the same as this wounded Navy man. His protest was very personal, the hurt palpable, with no attempt to draw attention to himself. Just as his service was selfless, so is his protest. God bless him and all who have sacrificed so much for this country.

Let this be a lesson to anyone else who might try to behave like an American instead of sucking the government teat like an Obamunist.

…the International Olympic Committee's decision to bow in dhimmitude to our Islamist masters and pretend the first shot across our bow back in ancient history—the horrific Munich massacre of 1972 — never happened…

You can attend a university with your head covered, even with your face covered, but it gets harder to attend class when your eyes are covered. If the trend means anything in a decade Muslim feminism will mean fighting for the right to keep one eye open in a religion that wants everyone to keep their eyes shut.

The only other nation I can think of who hangs its reputation as loudly and proudly on its healthcare system is Cuba. CUBA. Do you hear that Britain? It's you and a tiny, poverty-stricken island in the Caribbean. So much for the great Empire.

We suspect it had less to do with their impressions of fair and open competition, than the chance to get their friends and relatives cushy high paying jobs.

The Little Ice Age supposedly was down about 4 degrees, which destroyed crops and paved the way for the Black Plague, huge long wars, revolutions, etc.

They’re probably feminist squirrels protesting the skimpy outfits.

None of the three guys running the U.S. economy—President Barack Obama, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, and National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling—has ever run a business. But this guy has.

Getting Hounded By Teh Won

The Houston Culture Map describes, in a most nauseating way, Teh Won’s latest email foray into begging for cash as being invited to sign an adorable e-card “complete with a Norman Rockwell-esque photograph of wide-eyed Malia and teeny-tiny Sasha helping their father blow out his birthday candles.”

This makes the eighth email in the last two weeks centered on this fool’s birthday.  Talk about hounding folks to death. Puh-leeze.
(Insert your name here) —
My upcoming birthday next week could be the last one I celebrate as President of the United States, but that's not up to me—it's up to you.
This July deadline is our most urgent yet, coming after two consecutive months of being significantly outraised by Romney and the Republicans.
And if you pitch in $3 or whatever you can before midnight tonight, you and a guest will be automatically entered to join me at my birthday get-together next month.
The latest raffle by Teh Won’s re-election campaign offers a trip to his house on the south side of Chicago.

On June 17, Obama campaign finance director Rufus Gifford e-mailed, “Have you ever gotten to do something so cool you’re almost jealous of yourself? Pretty sure this would count.”

Chicago, that toddlin’ town, where 240 people have been killed this year and where gang members outnumber the police.
The check’s in the mail, stupid.

NCAA Deals A Blow To Penn State And Joe Pa

No longer larger than life, the man who sold his soul to the devil will be remembered as the man who played a role in the Jerry Sandusky cover-up by looking the other way as he committed despicable acts of sexual abuse.    His failure to protect the young men whom Sandusky had violated was reckless and callous. Their lives have been forever altered.

With the penalties and corrective actions imposed by the NCAA today, Joe Pa officially lost his title as the “winningest” coach in Division 1A college football.
"The NCAA imposed a $60 million sanction on the university, which is equivalent to the average gross annual revenue of the football program. These funds must be paid into an endowment for external programs preventing child sexual abuse or assisting victims and may not be used to fund such programs at the university. The sanctions also include a four-year football postseason ban and a vacation of all wins from 1998 through 2011. The career record of former head football coach Joe Paterno will reflect these vacated records. Penn State must also reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period. In addition, the NCAA reserves the right to impose additional sanctions on involved individuals at the conclusion of any criminal proceedings."
“There must have been about 100 people in the student center—current and prospective students, employees and alumni, all watching a big screen television. And, with the announcement of each penalty, there was an audible gasp from the people in the audience, watching the television screen.”
“Afterwards, there were no tears visible, but it seemed that some people were beyond tears; they were speechless.”
“One woman, as she recounted each of the penalties—one after another, was still visibly shaken.”
Monte Poole had this to say:
“The penalties, on a visceral level, were not at all outrageous. Horrible crimes took place under the umbrella of Penn State football. Somebody had to pay, and pay dearly.”
“Paterno's legacy already is tainted and scarred, his years of sainted reverence exposed as a sham. His statue was removed Sunday morning. Good riddance.”
“But Paterno, who ignored his moral obligation in hopes of preserving what he had built, already is dead.”
“Sandusky, convicted last month on 45 of 48 charges, involving 10 victims, already has had his day in court and faces sentencing.”
“Those representing Penn State administration—particularly former president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and former athletics director Tim Curley—already are or possibly could be facing criminal prosecution.”
“The procession of young boys molested by a man they initially perceived as an idol surely will react with varying degrees of satisfaction. They've lost what they'll never get back.”
“Somebody had to pay, though. The institution had to pay and pay dearly for failing those who were, by design, its number one priority: the students.”
“Emmert on Monday, in an act of clear-eyed indignation, power-washed the ashes. It was refreshing to see him take such harsh action.”
“It was disappointing to know those at Penn State throughout these crimes did not.”
Mr. Poole’s assessment is dead-on.  Those who disagree with the justice meted out by the NCAA need to look inside themselves and ask whether they too may have danced with the devil along with Joe Pa.

Obama’s Options Dwindle

The latest New York Times/CBS poll (July 11-16) shows that shelling out $100 million worth of attack ads against Romney’s time at Bain Capital simply hasn’t budged many voters.

Desperation is like stealing from the Mafia; you stand a good chance of attracting the wrong attention and the stench of desperation is hanging over the errand boy sent by grocery clerks’ team right now.

The race, according to the poll, is a dead heat.  When asked who voters thought would do a better job fixing the economy, Romney has an 8-point lead.

The current occupant of the Oval Office is precluded from running positive ads about his dismal record, so ginning up loathing is his only option to fire up his base.

Joe Battenfeld, writing at the Boston Herald, muses that “the only Obama campaign strategy right now is to keep hammering on Romney’s business record, and somehow convince voters that the exact date of Romney’s departure from Bain Capital is more important than the 8 percent unemployment rate.”

Keith Koffler adroitly points out, “The unrelenting attacks by Obama may also be having a subtler deleterious effect on his campaign.”

“The president is having trouble meeting his fundraising goals and must log countless miles traversing the country to try to fill his coffers. The financial shortfall is reflective of the depleted enthusiasm for Obama among his supporters, who have watched as he has unintentionally rebranded himself from the 2008 candidate of hope and change into a crude politician willing to do whatever it takes to ensure his political survival.”

Reasons not to vote for Obama Part One; and for extra measure Part Two.

The Fisher-Price Corporation, a leading manufacturer of children's educational toys, has announced a new line of toys designed to allow children to use their imagination and play at being Barack Obama.

…as we’re seeing this month, there are many intellectual inconveniences that don’t fit into Mr. Obama’s unbelievably naïve worldview.

Do we need to be borrowing money from China to work with the Mexican government to get more non-Americans on the U.S. dole? Really?

I guess she won’t be running around telling us how for the first time she’s proud to be an American. She’ll leave it to her husband to trash Americans, instead.

Appearing not to be terribly bright, Congresscritter Hank Johnson (D-GA) spills the beans about our rulers’ worldview.

…when he invokes “our shared values”, as if saying a thing will make it so.  I don’t care if he was born in Hawaii, or outer space. I share no values with this imposter.

Mr. Blackbeard! Do you have a statement about the government ban on high capacity (2 shot) magazines?

Myriad connections and favors exchanged between both Clintons and the Islamic Brotherhood go back a number of years and are complex, multifaceted, and troubling to any thinking person.

Picking the next president is as simple as this; Obama spends more than he takes in, Romney stays within budget.  Who do you think would make a better administrator of the American economy?

I don't have any explanation for this torrent of stupidity from a billionaire and the mayor of a major city. This reads like the ravings of an overmedicated man. It's a string of unintended punch lines.

I’m wondering if any New Yorker could pop on down to the NY Times building and see if the guards in the reception area are still armed.

While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.

It all depends on your ride.

In a classical political pincers movement, Bush’s piratical banksters busted the economy, and the Obamunists are prolonging the misery. The result is more poor people on the streets.

The Aurora appearance will offer Obama a chance to present himself as a healing unifier, even as he has waged a slash and burn campaign that has featured unsubstantiated charges against Mitt Romney, elements of class warfare, and suggestions of Republican racism by Vice President Joe Biden and other surrogates.

Obama Wants to Be in Your Family Holiday Photo

It’s not enough that your wedding registry may be centered around Obama donations. Now, Obama wants to be featured in your Christmas holiday family photo.

Need to update your Facebook photo?  Thinking about which family photo you’ll use in your next holiday card?

Have no fear.  The errand boy sent by grocery clerks has a “once-in-a-lifetime” solution.

Comb your hair, put on a clean I’m With Stupid T-shirt and start practicing your camera-ready smile.  Whisk your way to the Big Apple in a few weeks when Teh One visits there and a photographer will be waiting to snap a pic.

While everything else is free with this regime, the photos ain’t.  You’ll need to chip in $25.

Hurry while this offer still lasts because this will be the last “holiday” in which you can get a tacky picture taken with the worst president evah and don’t forget to say “Cheese”.

ABC’s Brian Ross Whispered Insidious Accusations In The Ear Of The Mob

Once the man responsible for the midnight movie massacre in Aurora, Colorado was in custody, federal officials announced that the man who opened fire in a movie theater killing 12 and wounding 59 was James Holmes.

With an astonishing bravura display of his talent for deduction, ABC News’ Brian Ross suggested that the suspect, James Eagan Holmes, might be affiliated with the Colorado Tea Party, based on a mention on that group's website of an Aurora man with the name “Jim Holmes.”

Ross had been investigating the background of James Holmes and said he had found something which he “thought” might be “significant.”

“Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But its Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado,” added Ross as he was allowed to break into the Good Morning America show at 8:17AM.

Politico, a distinctly left-leaning website, published this after speaking with sources at ABC News on the condition of anonymity:
“Ross’s latest and much-publicized blunder had further solidified his reputation inside the network as a reporter who is prone toward spectacular errors. To his critics, those failures are legion.”
“When asked what may have motivated Ross to report a connection between the alleged shooting suspect and the Tea Party, based off nothing more than a matching name and location, sources at ABC News attributed it to Ross’s desire to create news, and dismissed any suspicion of partisanship.”
Ahem.  Where is my bullshit flag?  I need to throw it now.  Ross obviously has a predilection for sensationalism.

After the flap over the Tucson shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords, the yellow journalists on the Left learned not to point fingers at the Tea Party.  Fortunately, yesterday no other news outlet made a connection between James Holmes and the organization save Mr. Stupid Ross.  It is clear to anyone that Ross wanted desperately to politicize the horror of that night and gin up a firestorm.

He was forced to go back on air and apologize, but not before he had whispered an insidious accusation in the ear of the mob.

The Charming Socialist Minister Vladimir Lenin Talked About

Rob Miller, writing at American Thinker, posited that "President Obama unwittingly defined himself as clueless about business in Roanoke late last week:  'If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.'”

And of course, since you did nothing to build your business, it belongs to "the people"—along with any wealth or profit derived from it.  Pretty much what Lenin had to say about the matter.

Miller ends his post with this:  "The only way a Barack Obama can get what you have is to steal it.  Which is exactly why he's telling people it doesn't belong to you in the first place."

Cankles Clinton, Maters And Monica

I have never cared for Hillary Clinton.  She and husband Bill were mired in the Whitewater scandal and the disappearance of the Rose Law Firm papers immediately following the death of White House Counsel Vince Foster.  As First Lady, she was handed the reins of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform in an attempt to force mandates for employers to provide health insurance coverage to all of their employees.

She and Bill were inherently dishonest pols who were, and still are, power hungry.

So, I read with glee that Cankles Clinton was pelted with tomatoes, shoes, water bottles and the haunting chants of “Monica, Monica, Monica” as her motorcade made its way through the port city of Alexandria, Egypt to give a speech on democratic rights.

I guess the protesters were all out of cigars.

From Bossip:
Egypt is gripped by political uncertainty as two major forces, the military and the Muslim Brotherhood, engage in a power struggle over the future of a country that remains without a permanent constitution, parliament or government. On Saturday night, protesters outside Clinton’s luxury hotel in Cairo chanted anti-Islamist slogans, accusing the United States of backing the Muslim Brotherhood’s rise to power.
In her speech at the newly re-opened U.S. consulate in Alexandria, Clinton rejected suggestions that the United States, which had long supported former Mubarak, was backing one faction or another in Egypt following his ouster last year.
“I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business, in Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, even if we could, which of course we cannot,” Clinton said. “We are prepared to work with you as you chart your course, as you establish your democracy,” she added. “We want to stand for principles, for values, not for people or for parties.”

My Nimble Little Musician

Don’t laugh at me.

This morning I was elated to discover that a little Carolina Wren had chosen to begin building a nest in a bird house I had purchased in May.  I had seen a decorative bird house that I fell in love with while visiting a friend at the beach in April.  The homeowner had placed the birdhouse on a 6-foot pedestal near the side entrance to their house and I decided I wanted to do the same thing.

I never expected when I installed the “Wing and a Prayer Cathedral” bird house two-and-a-half months ago that it would ever be occupied because my acre lot is loaded with trees and is abutted by farm land in the rear providing what I thought were more suitable “natural” locations to build a nest.

I have always been fascinated by raptors like the bald eagle, the peregrine falcon et. al. and took our more common feathered friends for granted.

This morning was different.  I heard someone singing outside my door.  He was a very vocal fellow.  I was amazed at just how vocal he was when I saw his tiny size.  I included a comparison I found that shows their size compared to a tea cup in the photo above.

I had no idea what kind of bird he was so I jumped on the computer and started Googling small birds.  Was he a finch, a chickadee, sparrow?  Nope.  He was a Carolina Wren.  At first I thought he might have been a house wren, but I took out my binoculars and got a good look at the little thing and sure enough he had the markings of a Carolina Wren. They employ one of the loudest songs per volume of birds.  Believe me that’s a true statement.

I stood in the doorway watching him bring twigs to the bird house and wrestle with them to get them through the entry hole.  It only took a second for him to edge it in sideways and then he’d flit off for another and another.  At intervals he would pause and sing his little song.

I was mesmerized by how industrious he was and how unconcerned he was that I was so close to the bird house.

According to the information I found on the species, the breeding season runs from March to July.  Apparently, this will be his second nesting.

Carolina Wrens are monogamous, and breeding pairs may stay together for years. They work together to construct nests—which may be found almost anywhere. Wrens nest in natural locations such as branches, tree-holes, and stumps but also frequent windowsills, mailboxes or other attractive human-made spots.

So excited was I that I registered to become an official Nest Watcher for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  I will be recording data on the nest to include total eggs, total young and total fledglings and the fate of the nest.

The HopeAndChange Photoshop™ Challenge

On June 12th, Instapundit posted an article on how Obama is losing support among African-American voters in North Carolina.  He featured a photo of a store wall with a banner that read “Going Out Of Business.”

Readers of the post started suggesting ways to alter the photo to incorporate Obama’s now famous fib that “the private sector is doing fine.”

On June 23rd, Bullet People, a site that I was not familiar with until this morning, suggested a challenge to Photoshop™ the original into something snarky.

Never one to pass up a chance to mock the errand boy sent by grocery clerks, I set about creating a little something that picked up the meme I posted yesterday.

Here's the original:

Headwinds: Sky-High Taxation, Regulation And Scofflaw Executive Orders Aren’t Helping America’s Anemic Economy

Once upon a time, in a country now barely recognizable, a certain errand boy sent by grocery clerks uttered the words, "This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal …"

In that same lofty speech, a warning was given that 52% of the electorate unwisely ignored at their peril:  “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

Those five days passed and in early 2009, the regime of the errand boy boldly predicted that if Congress passed his $800 billion stimulus plan that by this time the nation’s unemployment rate would be around 5.6%.

Fast forward three-and-a-half years.  Today’s weak job market is affected by things such as the threat of higher taxes in 2013 (when the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts are scheduled to expire), the costly impact of Obamacare, and the harsh regulatory environment.

This country’s jobless rate has remained perched at above 8% for 41 straight months.  The average length of unemployment rose to 39.9 weeks in June.  Companies continue to be cautious in their hiring making it harder for those without jobs to find work.

It will take 219,000 net new jobs a month for the unemployment rate to be below 8% on Election Day if the current participation rate holds steady.

James Pethokoukis, writing for American Enterprise Institute, reminds us that, “Job growth during the three-year Obama recovery has averaged just 75,000 a month for a total of 2.7 million. During the first three years of the Reagan Recovery, job growth averaged 273,000 a month for a total of 9.8 million. If you adjust for the larger U.S. population today, the Reagan Recovery averaged 360,000 jobs a month for a three-year total of 13 million jobs.”

Hmmmm…it is reasonable to conclude that the sooner the errand boy sent by grocery clerks is removed from the levers of power the better.  Hurry up November.
